Akhil Kumar is a former Indian Olympic boxer who represented India at the 2004 Athens and 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. At Beijing 2008, he reached the quarter-finals of the men's 54 kg Bantamweight category and finished 5th overall. He was also a Commonwealth Games gold medallist and a recipient of the Arjuna Award.

Akhil Kumar was born on 27 March 1981 in Faizabad, Uttar Pradesh. He developed his boxing career in Haryana and trained at the Bhiwani Boxing Club. He represented India at the 2004 Athens and 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

At the 2004 Athens Olympics, Akhil competed in the Flyweight division. He returned to the Olympics four years later at Beijing 2008, competing in the 54 kg Bantamweight category.

His Beijing campaign began with a victory over France's Ali Hallab. In the Round of 16, he defeated Russia's Sergey Vodopyanov by decision in a closely contested bout to reach the Olympic quarter-finals.

In the quarter-final on 18 August 2008, Akhil faced Moldova's Veaceslav Gojan and lost by decision. His final Olympic placing was 5th, making him one of India's notable Olympic boxing quarter-finalists.

Before his Beijing Olympic success, Akhil had built an impressive international record. He won gold at the 2005 Commonwealth Federation Boxing Championships in Glasgow and the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne in the 54 kg Bantamweight category. Haryana Police records also list his bronze medal at the 2007 Asian Boxing Championships and his 2008 Olympic qualification victory in Bangkok, where he was named Best Boxer.

Akhil Kumar was awarded the Arjuna Award in 2005 for his achievements in boxing. He later joined the Haryana Police and served as a Deputy Superintendent of Police.

His achievements, particularly his Commonwealth gold medals and Olympic quarter-final appearance, make Akhil Kumar an important figure in the history of Indian boxing.
